Digital X-Rays
X-rays play an important role in the proper diagnosis of your mouth. Not only are they used to discover decay and impacted teeth but are essential in the early detection of abscesses, tumors, cysts and bone loss from periodontal disease. Our digital x-ray system allows us to instantly see x-rays of your teeth on our computers while using a fraction of the radiation as compared to traditional x-rays. Digital x-rays allow our team to email images to specialists and insurance companies for timely responses. If our patients have x-rays from other practitioners, we can scan them into our system for easy reference and efficiency.
Diagnose
Did you know that half of cavities found in your teeth could go undetected by current diagnostic techniques? However, our office now offers a new diagnostic method that can more accurately define caries in teeth.
We offer a unique service that can detect caries at the earliest stage. The DIAGNOdent Laser Caries Detector is over 90 percent accurate in detecting even the smallest lesions that don’t even appear on X-rays! Early detection enables us to better preserve and protect your teeth.
The DIAGNOdent Laser Caries Detector boasts a high patient acceptance and satisfaction with its quick, simple and painless nature.
Velscope
This is newly emerging technology that enables us to identify “high risk” areas in the mouth before they are visible to the eye. Oral cancer is a debilitating and often fatal disease. Science has shown us that patients who have had tobacco use, alcohol consumption, and family history of cancer are more likely to develop oral cancer. This test takes about 10 minutes, is non-painful, and is photographable. If you fit this profile make sure you ask about this test. It could save your life.
Twilight Dentistry
Sedation or “sleep dentistry” refers to the use of medication to help our patients relax, decrease anxiety or even be put to sleep during dental procedures. There are different types of sedation, including nitrous oxide ("laughing gas"), oral sedatives, Intra-venous (moderate sedation) and general anesthetic. Sedation is most commonly used during extensive procedures, for patients with dental phobia or for patients who find it difficult to sit still. The Mogelof Dental Group has a Dental Anesthesiologist who can provide moderate to advanced sedation in our office. It is important for patients to communicate all current medical issues and medications prior to any type of sedation technique. Pre and post sedation instructions are always reviewed with our patients.
"Laughing Gas"
Nitrous oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas, is often used as a conscious (awake) sedative during a dental visit. The gas is administered with a mixture of oxygen and has a calming effect that helps phobic or anxious patients relax during their dental treatment. Although it is a mild sedative, patients are still conscious and can talk to our dentist during their visit. After treatment, the nitrous is turned off and only oxygen is administered for five to 10 minutes to help flush any remaining gas out of the patient’s system. The effects wear off almost immediately. Nitrous oxide rarely has side effects, although some patients who experience motion sickness in a car or boat, may have minor nausea. Your doctor will provide you with pre- and post-sedation instructions.
Patient Communication
Our practice uses intraoral cameras located in each of our treatment rooms. All our staff are ready to help answer questions about your specific problems as well as your SMILE. We know how difficult it is for patients to actually see what the dentist or hygienist sees. By projecting your tooth or teeth on a television screen, we can really make sure you clearly understand the problems as well as possible solutions. Since all the Doctors take photographs before and after treatment, we can proudly show the amazing changes available to our patients.
In addition, the office has a Library of videos covering a wide range of dental topics. These tapes are available to lend to our patients for viewing at home. Please ask about this GREAT service at your next visit.
