Sleep Apnea is a common disorder that has affected 11 million Americans and people in other parts of the world. It is an ailment that is not easy to detect. Though the ailment can be diagnosed in the form of different symptoms, it is often mistaken for some other problem and ignored. The symptoms may be similar to those of other ailments but unknown to the patients’ one is afflicted with a serious problem, commonly known as Sleep Apnea.

What is Sleep Apnea?

In simple terms it is a sleeping disorder where one is faced with breathing disorders. While one is asleep one stops breathing for few seconds or even minutes at a stretch. The situation can last anywhere from 10 seconds to anywhere between few minutes. Over time, and if untreated, the problem takes on huge proportions and sometimes the irregularity of breathing could happen 20 to 30 times in an hour. This is just a part of the problem. Those suffering from Sleep Apnea are faced with sleep deprivation syndrome in the morning, where one continues to feel lethargic and tired, continued bouts of depression, moody behavioral traits, concentration problems, indigestion and headaches. Some people could also suffer from sudden weight gain the cause of which cannot be explained.

Consult with Your Dentist

To be treated correctly the syndrome known as Sleep Apnea needs to be detected and then diagnosed by the dentist. The main problem is that the symptoms often go unrecognized. Rather it is mistaken for some other problem, when in reality they are the symptoms of Sleep Apnea. If one recognizes the problem, it is advisable to consult the dentist without any delay. Sometimes the problem can be life threatening to the point that it can result in a cardiac arrest. If one is alert one can try to remove the conditions leading to the blockages, and resume a fitful night’s sleep. If one is unable to do so, it continues to hinder ones sleep pattern and throws you totally off gear.

Treatment for Sleep Apnea

Once diagnosed, how is Sleep Apnea treated? Typically a doctor starts treatment immediately once the problem is detected. Treatments of Sleep Apnea can be done in different ways. Those suffering from Sleep Apnea are often advised of oxygen inhalation while sleeping. Sometimes a CPAP machine is prescribed. It is a machine that clears the obstacles and continues to push oxygen into the heart. Since the situation could convert to a rather serious problem, one usually has to get used to an external machine that enables regular supply of oxygen to the lungs. There are dental machines that also help to position the tongue is a forward position so as to enlarge the breathing tract and keep it free of any obstacles. These machines are called MAD which helps in mandibular positioning and TRD – a tongue retraining device. Both help to enlarge the tract and increase the flow of oxygen into the lungs, therefore making breathing easier, leading to undeterred and undisturbed sleep.

Many people today are becoming more aware of various cosmetic procedures that they can undergo. Many of these procedures are surgical and expensive and as result many people choose to undergo other cosmetic procedures. One of the most popular of these procedures is Botox cosmetic injections.

What are Botox Cosmetic Injections?

Botox cosmetic injections are small injections made into very localized areas of the body for the purpose of harnessing its cosmetic benefits. Botox is actually a chemical produced by a strain of bacteria that can be harmful if ingested and in large quantities but because of pharmaceutical standardization and the use of only very small amounts in localized areas this is a very safe procedure.

What is Botox used for?

Botox is commonly used to treat wrinkles, particularly in the face. The way Botox does this is by blocking a natural chemical from being absorbed in the area which eventually causes a muscle contraction resulting in a tightening effect. Botox cosmetic injections are performed by experienced professionals and have been used for many years. Over a period of time the effect wears off (typically within a few months). Botox cosmetic injections can also be used to treat some forms of muscle spasm in the face and in the eyes as well as to reduce excessive sweating in the underarm area.

If you are interested in this safe and common procedure find a local professional today and find out more about Botox cosmetic injections and how they can work for you.

Cosmetic dentistry has gained prominence worldwide. It helps to give back the lost confidence with the brilliant smile that makes heads turn and swings things your way. So why not get back the pearly white teeth with the help of dental fillings. When we talk of fillings, typically they can be of two types – white, or the silver/ mercury fillings. There are some distinct differences between white and the mercury fillings.

What is the difference between silver fillings and the composite porcelain fillings in white?

White fillings do not contain any element of mercury. Against this, silver fillings contain mercury as an important element. While different elements make up the silver filling, mercury is one of those elements that have raised eyebrows and questions. There have been a number studies and reports with World Health Organizations about mercury being used for fillings and the necessary drawbacks or advantages to its use.

It has been said that mercury fillings are being looked down upon by several dental professionals on the ground that mercury poisoning is common and leads to ill effects on the human body in the long run. Over usage of mercury significantly reduces the quantity of oxygen content in the blood. It is a harmful situation as the functioning of the body is dependent on the amount of supply of oxygen the body receives on a continuing basis from the blood. It is a known fact that cells die due to oxygen deprivation. Lack of oxygen due to mercury intake could certainly lead to death, malfunction or dysfunctional cells. This is a condition that could lead to serious health hazards or death. Mercury fillings could be a cause of mercury inhalation as well. This could lead to the decrease of immunity in the body. In various studies it has been seen that high levels of mercury concentration leads to weakening of the immune system as also cause diseases to do the same.

From the esthetics point of view, silver fillings can be quite unsightedly. White fillings give your teeth the natural look due to its color. In addition, white fillings work at strengthening the teeth. They are also nontoxic and do not cause any harm to the body.

With the choice of white versus the silver amalgams, dental experts prefer the white porcelain fillings to the latter option. Though the evidence of harm caused by mercury or silver flings is not conclusive, most of them prefer to take a safer route which is safe as well as esthetically sound.

Choosing a dentist can be a very challenging endeavor, as there are several things to consider during your search. You certainly want to find someone who works with prowess, is competent, considerate and professional, while offering affordable procedures of the highest quality. Once you decide upon a dentist you may be confronted about some procedures that are said to be necessary. You may feel that these procedures are unnecessary and would like to receive a second opinion regarding how to go about taking care of the issues.

Your dentist gave you some bad news when you had your most recent routine check up. You have a bad cavity and your dentist tells you that it requires a root canal. The problem is, the procedure is too expensive for your budget and you know that the pain will linger on for days after completion. You know that something must be done about the cavity but you just don’t agree that such an intricate procedure is necessary. It is time to get a second opinion.

Perhaps you have been self-conscious about your smile for a while and are considering getting braces to straighten your teeth. Your dentist will probably send you to a specialist and they may press the idea that you need to get the uncomfortable traditional wire braces. It may be the right time to get a second opinion from another dental specialist that offers the option of a more subtle corrective treatment such as clear correct braces.

No matter what the case, it is imperative that you seek a second opinion whenever you are in doubt about something regarding your dental health. It is possible that an extremely expensive and elaborate procedure could quite possibly be solved with something far less drastic. Perhaps a serious issue has been underestimated, or even completely overlooked. Make a point of scheduling an appointment at Mogelof Dental to receive an honest second opinion.

You don’t need to relegate your wish for a beautiful smile and perfect teeth to your dreams anymore. You can select braces that will turn this hitherto impossible dream into reality.

Better Looks
When you think about braces, the first thing that pops into mind is how horrible they look! That metal wire running all over your teeth is enough reason for you not wanting to smile anymore. At the same point in time, wearing metal braces is very inconvenient. These problems now belong to the past. Clear Correct Braces is the option for the future. As the name suggests, these are clear, transparent braces that can barely be seen.

No Pain, No Inconvenience
They are the epitome of convenience. You can use them all the time, take them off while eating, brush your teeth and pop them in again. Straightening teeth can be a difficult, time consuming and at times painful process because regular braces need to be tightened. With Clear Correct Braces, the process of teeth straightening becomes painless. These braces are aligners that are custom made for you. They are designed in a way that slowly but methodically pushes your teeth into shape. The result is painless straightening for beautiful teeth.

Time & Money Saved
The time taken for the completion of the process is also lesser than that taken by traditional braces. You will be able to stop wearing braces in a much shorter time period. Even when you are wearing them, chances are people won’t even notice it. Clear Correct Braces. These are easier to put in and take out. Traditional braces are more expensive to fix and require constant attention from the dentist. This is not the case with Clear Correct Braces. They are available at very affordable prices and do the job much better.

For A More Confident You
Badly shaped, crooked teeth can make talking difficult. Pronunciation of a few syllables is affected by traditional braces as well. With Clear Correct Braces, you now have the freedom to converse properly. It will also add oodles to your confidence in yourself. Irrespective of whether you have a job interview coming up or even a public speaking session, these braces will allow you to put your best foot forward. You can smile your way into the future with these on. Your teeth will be straightened in no time and you will have a smile worth dying for.

With Clear Correct Braces, the first thing someone notices will be your smile for its beauty and confidence.

Often we have heard the saying ‘Health is Wealth’. Irrespective of your age, it is important to be healthy, whether it is your oral health or your general well being. Your oral health is dependent on your periodontal condition. Periodontal disease, commonly known as gum disease causes infection in the tissues and bones around the teeth. Due to plaque and bacteria, the gums get affected and lead to various forms of infections. Periodontal disease can be cured with the help of specialized medical science – periodontal dentistry.

We are sometimes too busy in our everyday lives to give importance to triggers that could lead to serious health conditions. We typically tend to neglect it, as a result of which it takes serious dimensions and could sometimes lead to severe complications. Little do we know that periodontal disease is also linked to serious and life threatening health conditions like cancer, diabetes, stomach ailments, cardiac problems and complications in pregnancy, amongst others. The infection that builds up in the gums and bones travel to various parts of the body through your food as well as blood stream and causes damages, which may be far too serious than we can ever comprehend.

It is essential to consult dentists who are experts in periodontal dentistry. Not only do they make sure that your gum is in good health but helps avoid the onset of any infections through regular treatments. Periodontal dentistry can help reduce the chances of preventing the bacteria from getting mixed up with the platelets, therefore preventing clots to form inside the heart leading to heart disease and ailments. With their proficiency in the field, the dentists can help prevent stomach problems that can later lead to other problems as well.

Having said this, the importance of periodontal and oral health cannot be ignored. It is best to consult the dentist, on periodic intervals and get yourself diagnosed. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry!

Does the very thought of going to the dentist set your pulse racing? You sure feel your blood pressure shooting up and could do with a shot of a nerve cooler. You almost hallucinate about needles, shots, drill machines and other instruments commonly used by a dentist. You don’t need to worry anymore. Get a leash at your anxiety and stress with the benefits of sedation dentistry. You can now go to your dentist and get your teeth treated without having to worry about the pain and after effects of a procedure that may or may not be painful. In Connecticut, Dr Mogelof is well known for sedation dentistry.

As the name suggest – Dr. Mogelof in Connecticut practices sedation dentistry to keep the patient calm and relaxed with the help of sedatives. The sedatives are mild in nature and typically are tranquilizers or nitrous oxides that are used during dental procedures. They come in the form of pills and can be administered orally as any other medication. Once the patient is put on a medication he or she is unconscious during the procedure, and soon gains back consciousness and fully aware of the surroundings. Dr. Mogelof feels it is necessary to check the patient’s health, history of illness and treatments, addictions if any, before advising sedation, and its dosage while doing a procedure. Harmless as it is, it also depends on the patients general health conditions.

The biggest advantage of sedation dentistry is that the most complex of procedures, including cosmetic procedures can be done without any interference from the patient. This helps the doctor to concentrate on the procedure and get it done as perfectly as possible, from the patients perspective, he or she feels confident being treated by a dentist and does not feel the anxiety at the bare mention of the dentists name.

This enables his patients to base their trust on his ability to navigate through many treatment options to produce a customized, predictable, long-lasting outcome through excellent dentistry and beautiful cosmetics. Patients benefit from this down-to-earth approach.

Dr. Mogelof uses the newest technology to provide accuracy, comfort and consistent communication. Helping patients make decisions about treatment is simplified, he says, by providing them with the same standard of care he would choose for himself or his family. His state-of-the-art equipment, including a Velscope to identify areas at high risk for oral cancer and a digital X-ray system, help patients feel they are being properly diagnosed.

Dr. Mogelof is chief of dentistry at the Lord Chamberlain Skilled Nursing Facility in Stratford, Chairman of Peer Review for the Bridgeport Dental Association and a Mentor at the prestigious Kois Center of Dental Education in Seattle, Wash. His selection to and involvement with these and other organizations affirms his stature within the dental community. As a Certified Dental Consultant and a Certified Fraud Examiner, he works to resolve quality of care issues, billing fraud and accident resolution problems. He also appears as an expert witness and is a dental-legal consultant.

Dr. Mogelof sums up his philosophy by saying, “I want my patients to understand we are always there for them and want to live up to our trademark, “Let Us Help You Smile.”
